The day of nothing

There are certain mornings when your bed hugs you tighter, your body refuses to obey your mind, all its want to do is just close its eyes snuggle in the covers and go back into that deep sleep from which it has been woken up by the harsh sound of the alarm,in my case its generally my dog barking ferociously as the guy who washes my car has arrived.
Oh god how i hate the simple lad at this very moment, thinking why does he have to be so sincere towards his duty. For a moment i pretend to be asleep and give time to my hubby to wake up and do the needful for the car washing cause it was his idea of getting the car washed so early in the morning but alas he keeps snoring inspite of me trying to push him and wake him up.With a frown i get up,try to hush my very angry pet in vain,do the routine of switching on the pump and get back to bed to try to get back that lost sleep.
Just when i am drifting into my dreamland the room is filled with bright light..the man of the house is up..the first sentence i hear "uthogi..chai banaogi" and i tell him i want to do nothing today,i just want to laze around..and he says "ok,so lo thoda aur"arggghhhh..what i expected to hear was, ok no problems i will make tea today but here no efforts are made to change the mandatory routine..After a while i push myself up and go around with the regular morning chores when the phone rings and the number displayed sinks my heart.yes its the maid telling that she is on leave today...
There can be a no worse beginning to a day for an Indian woman than with no maid coming in the morning. So my day of doing nothing goes for a toss.Maybe guessing by my body language hubby dear very sweetly tells me not to bother about lunch, tells that we can get something ordered.Grinning from ear to ear while making breakfast i start going through the bookshelf in my mind to decide a book i am going to enjoy through the day in my bed with a bar of chocolate..
All is going well and planned when suddenly the intercom rings and very apolizingly hubby dear tells that he is expecting some guest for lunch and the poor guest has been travelling for a long period so wants to have home cooked food...Phew...the annapurna in me wakes up and i rush to the kitchen waving aside the day of doing nothing for some other time, some other week.
But since we Indian women never give up i hope each of us will be able to steal some days of doing nothing no matter how many leaves the maid takes, how many craving for home made food guests arrive, juggling between various chores we will do it....
